Horror Island (1941)

 Story: 

A struggling businessman (Foran) organizes a "mystery weekend" excursion to an old, supposedly haunted pirate hideout as part of a new tourism venture. He and his customers are soon haunted by a very real killer.

 

The film cost $93,000 and was made between March 3, 1941 -March 15, 1941.

 The working title of this film was Terror of the South Seas. While Ralf Harolde's character is referred to as "Rod Grady" in the film, some reviewers listed the character as "Rod Hogan." A Hollywood Reporter news item from January 1941 states that writer Samuel J. Warshawsky was assigned by supervising producer Joseph Santley to work on the screenplay for this film, but it has not been determined if either man contributed to the released film. According to Universal press materials, this was the first picture that actor Leo Carrillo made as part of his new contract with the studio. Hollywood Reporter stated in March 1941 that Universal signed director George Waggner to a seven-year contract because of his work on this film and Man-Made Monster . Hollywood Reporter also reported that actor John Eldredge's scenes in the Universal film The Black Cat (see entry above) were rushed so that he could appear in the film. Modern sources list Walter Strenge as camera operator and include Eddie Parker, Dale Van Sickel and John Burton in the cast.

Movie Info

The first English-language film of director Roman Polanski is a psychological thriller in the vein of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) and his own later film Rosemary's Baby (1968). Catherine Deneuve stars as Carol Ledoux, a Belgian manicurist living with her sister, Helen (Yvonne Furneaux), in a London flat. Simultaneously attracted and repulsed by sex, Carol is a virgin who finds her sister's relationship with a married man, Michael (Ian Hendry), extremely disturbing. When her sister and Michael go on holiday, Carol begins to disintegrate mentally, hallucinating bizarre encounters, being forced into taking a sabbatical from her job and ultimately committing a pair of murders in her deranged state.

The Alligator People (1959)

STORY:

Nurse Jane Marvin (Garland), reveals under hypnosis that her real name is Joyce Webster and tells an incredible story. On honeymoon with her husband, war veteran Paul Webster (Richard Crane), a telegram is received, casuing him to walk off their train and disappear. She eventually tracks him down to a plantation mansion in the Bayou swamps and is unwelcome by the owner, Mrs. Lavinia Hawthorne (Frieda Inescort), who claims she never heard of Paul Webster. Joyce insists on staying, and soon discovers her hubby looking leathery and scale-faced as he creeps around the mansion and its swamps in a trenchcoat. It seems that Paul was the victim of a nasty plane crash and ended up being burnt with a body full of broken bones. Trying to prompt a full recovery, a scientist experimented on him using a special regenerative formula extracted from alligators, but unfortunately, the results are transforming him into a reptile 

Straying from the nearly unwatchable pan and scan version that many monster movie fans have suffered through over the years, Fox presents THE ALLIGATOR PEOPLE in 2.35:1 widescreen with anamorphic enhancement, beautifully preserving the original CinemaScope ratio. There is some minor speckling on the print source, but it is indeed minor. The black and white picture is very sharp with nice detail, and black levels are deep. There is a solid stereo track, as well as the original mono for purists, and even a Spanish language mono track.

Storyline:
